The Steps of Brixham

Clump, clump, clump – the heavy tread of the fishermen slowly climbing their way upwards, home from the toil of days at sea.

Clatter, clatter, clatter – the fish hawker wives rushing downwards to load their creels and off to sell door to door, keeping their families in food and board.

Scuffle, dawdle, chatter - children reluctantly dragging their way to school in the morning, climbing the hill, summoned by insistent bells playing their tune on the church tower.

Footsteps echoing through time and history on the Steps of Brixham.

Brixham is renowned for the steep rows of its gaily painted houses clustered around the harbour and the steps that link them together across the town.  But do you know the tales that lurk upon them, the characters and lives that haunt them?
